Movado Wrist Watches
Achille Ditesheim must have had visions of timekeeping excellence when he relocated his family to the Swiss Jura Mountains. Leaving Alsace, France behind in 1876, he went on to begin manufacturing wrist watches in 1881. Though he started with a mere six craftsmen, he was able to grow his manufacturing business by leaps and bounds, employing 80 craftsmen by 1897.
Ditesheim's company grew to hold a place among the largest Swiss wrist watch manufacturers. The company's reputation for innovation spread. While other manufacturers were using hand tools in making their wrist watches, Ditesheim's business was using advanced mechanical tools in crafting its watches. Ditesheim also made use of electricity in crafting his watches.
Design and Innovation of Movado Wrist Watches
In 1905, Ditesheim named his company Movado. The name means "always in motion" in the language of Esperanto. The name fit, as Movado has always been known for its continual design and technological innovation. In fact, Movado showed some of its pioneering ability in 1912, with the introduction of its Polyplan watch. This watch featured a curved design made to conform to the wearer's wrist and went on to win many international awards for its designs. However, Movado didn't stop with this wrist watch. By 1920, Movado had realized international prominence, introducing more than 700 wrist watches.
Today's Movado hasn't lost its touch, continuing to manufacture wrist watches that are innovative and attractively designed. Shop for Movado wrist watches online with us at WonderWatches.com. For more information or ordering assistance, contact us by email.
